ABC's

When I left Bukit Mertajam for Cyberjaya, there was just this whole new world waiting for me. I has many firsts' and many surprises which kinda made me feel like the saying "Rusa masuk ke kampung" or maybe it was "Katak di bawah tempurung". (??)

I had 'chee cheong fun' for the first time and ate 'chap fan' at the stalls for the first time. Goodness knows why I never tried those back in BM. *shrug*

Mainly all the new experiences I had, had to do with food. Now I know many, if not ALL Malaysians, knows the term ABC. Or better known as Air Batu Campur.

To me, Air Batu Campur was pretty much a new term as I have always known it as Ais Kacang. While the term ABC is what my family refers to as 'Ass Burning Curry'.

I must have been the only one who had never used that term before so imagine my surprise when my friend drove us to get ABC and it wasn't the curry I was expecting. heh.

Lesson learnt.... kids...never trust your parents when they tell you the names of food. Carrot cake is not called 'Lumps' just because it looks like it. And if food is named after a body part, that's probably not what it's called in society. ;)

it's Friday yo!

Such a cute song for a Friiiiidayyyyyyyy.

Friday I'm In Love
Originally sung by The Cure
Cover by Fiction Family

I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's grey and Wednesday too
Thursday I don't care about you
It's Friday, I'm in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Oh, Thursday doesn't even start
It's Friday I'm in love

Saturday, wait
And Sunday always comes too late
But Friday, never hesitate...

I don't care if Mondays black
Tuesday, Wednesday - heart attack
Thursday, never looking back
It's Friday, I'm in love

Monday, you can hold your head
Tuesday, Wednesday stay in bed
Or Thursday - watch the walls instead
It's Friday, I'm in love

Saturday, wait
And Sunday always comes too late
But Friday, never hesitate...

Dressed up to the eyes
It's a wonderful surprise
To see your shoes and your spirits rise
Throwing out your frown
And just smiling at the sound
And as sleek as a sheik
Spinning round and round
Always take a big bite
It's such a gorgeous sight
To see you eat in the middle of the night
You can never get enough
Enough of this stuff
It's Friday, I'm in love

I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's grey and Wednesday too
Thursday I don't care about you
It's Friday, I'm in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Thursday doesn't even start
It's Friday I'm in love

Lesson Of The Day

"Don't look for trouble when it doesn't look for you"

When someone suggests helping them host an event - especially a music event, say "NO!". Gigs are hard to organize man. I think I'll stick to art shows and exhibitions.

World is on Fire

Sarah McLachlan is one of my favourite singers and one which I really really admired when I was a teenager growing up in Bukit Mertajam. Well here's one of her latest songs, which is just sooo amazing. Check out her performance on Oprah. It's pretty inspiring. :)

Artist: Sarah Mclachlan
Album: Afterglow
Title: World on fire

Hearts are worn
In these dark ages
You're not alone,
In these stories' pages
The light has fallen
Amongst the living and the dying
And I'll try to hold it in
Yeah I'll try to hold it in

The world is on fire
It's more than I can handle
I'll tap into the water
Try and bring my share
Try to bring more, more than I can handle
Bring it to the table
Bring what I am able ...

I watch the heavens
But I find no calling
Something I can do to change what's coming
Stay close to me
While the sky is falling
I don't wanna be left alone,
Don't want to be alone...

Hearts break ... hearts mend ... love still hurts
visions clash ... planes crash
Still there's talk of saving souls
Still the cold is closing in on us

We part the veil on our killer sun
Stray from the straight line
On this short run ...
The more we take the less we become
The fortune of one man means less for some

Hoopla

It's great news to hear that PG165 made its way to Fly fm Campur Charts! Although none of us caught the programme live, it was still pretty exciting.

Well its online now, marked under 8th March 2009, so check it out if you haven't. And please VOTE. You've got all week to vote and there's something in it for you!

NZX who is the owner of PG165 (the bike) will ride it all the way from Melaka to Kuala Lumpur, if they're still in the charts this weekend.

Good stuff, no? Well FYI, it's a really, REally REALLYY old bike, so it'll be quite a sight.

**Also being interviewed during the programme are Dose Two - a rap group formed by a friend I knew from MMU. Vix aka Trix aka Sayla aka Viknesh Chandra (yea he's a bit schizo)'s in there so take a listen to the interview as well. He's not all that poyo. Well not all the time la. heh.

a life worth remembering

One of the best things about family gatherings are the endless tales of old that flitter across the room in varying versions. The conversation nearly always centers around my grandparents and their home and involves the many visitors and homeless they had opened their doors to.

Its interesting to note that in a home with 7 children, a couple could even afford to bring in three (or more) adults and a handful of other children. That's 15 - 17 odd mouths to feed and no one ever went hungry. It's a wonder that everyone even had a bed/space to sleep in.

Hearing my family talk about people long gone as if they had only last met yesterday, makes me wonder what kind of conversation I will have of my parents and what the next generation will have about me.

I do often wonder if we live lives worth remembering. Nothing seems significant enough. Nothing as funny as knowing a mad old flasher who was Tunku's cousin. Or as amazing enough as knowing a person who survived Japanese torture.

I suppose till I really live and dream big dreams, I'd be left wondering about the significance of my being. I just pray that at the end, we'd all have a legacy that's worth something. One not built on wealth and riches or a great name.

Someone once said: “I may be here for a short while, gone tomorrow into oblivion or until the days come to take me away. But, in whatever part you play, be remembered as part of a legacy...of sharing dreams and changing humanity for the better. It's that legacy that never dies”
