work in progress

I was talking to Nicky today and he made me realise that we're 40 days away from a new year. 2010. 40 has GOT to be a significant number right?

I mean it did rain for 40 days and 40 nights. Moses was on the mountain 40 days and 40 nights. The Israelites wandered 40 years. Jesus fasted in the wilderness for 40 days and was seen on the earth for 40 days after His crucifixion.
see...its significant.

According to wiki Answers, "A 40-something time period, whether days, months, or years is ALWAYS a period of testing, trial, probation, or chastisement (but not judgment) and ends with a period of restoration, revival or renewal."

Well I want to make the next 40 days count. I want to be geared up and filled with purpose for the year 2010. I don't mean that I've been flailing around in 2009. This year has been extraordinary. I can quite clearly remember writing this post way back in January.

Guess i did throw my heart over the fence but I haven't had enough of quaint cafe's though. :)

Going back to the significance of 40, I'm gonna make them count. I'm going to re-read 'Purpose Driven Life'

God knows I've picked it up and read Day 1 like 18 times.(I've only read through the book once. Like barely.)But I just know there's something worth catching.

I'm going to regret saying this, but I think House, Heroes, Gossip Girl, Grey's Anatomy, Lie To Me, Big Bang Theory and Vampire Diaries can wait.(Notice i didn't include SYTYCD in there. :p)

If you think you need to realign and refocus too, would be great if I had some company. Reading "It's not about YOU" for the umpteenth time doesn't actually get easier. But seriously... I'm gonna be pushing through.

Sporadic updates to follow. ;)

killer heels

Dear ms/mr shoe designer,

Can you please make gorgeous heels that don't make me feel like i'm walking on needles? I would really appreciate a decent and sturdy heel instead of the flimsy stilettos people seem to be tottering around in these days. Can it be cushiony and pretty and come in vampy colours or have a cool design like this:
I said cool design. AND COMFY. That one probly has to be worn with a prosthetic leg or something.
It looks rather PAINFUL!
But boy do these take the cake!
I'm so reminded of District 9. These could be the most painful shoes ever created!
Aptly named - Alexander McQueen's Spring 2010 'Monster Shoes' Collection

Weekly Picks

Yes i've been on a slow crawl with my surfing. But only cause work's been a bitch and other stuff has taken preceedence over blogging. I've been blogging since 2004 and contrary to popular belief, it doesn't get easier.

But today, I thought I should share a video that's all kinds of happy. It's by Alaling and the Kaya Koks. Alaling or better known as Chingz and I go waaaaaayyyy back to this one day at band camp. Where she introduced herself and said. "I can play the flute with my...."

Well no that's not how we met. We met at Alpha year orientation. And she was this bubbly character and the first thing she said to me was, "I have grandma hands."

Ok Im not quite sure how we got to hanging out and stuff but we got together one day and decided to record a song. We did a super lame cover of "You don't know me" and performed for Alpha Night which sucked BIG time. HB4-C-3001. Yupp that was the 'band' name. Our singer was May who used to sing in the shower and she spat at people just for fun. Ahh...Alpha. But anyway, Ching-a-ling went on from there and I think she was rapping at one point (haha!), and then she found her true calling of writing more happy songs and making fun funky videos. :D

Owh and did you know, she's also a super duper talented designer. She can cook, sew and she makes pretty little jewellery. Talk about multi-talented man! If you love thrifting, you'll love this too - Thrift Book

to just be

I interview Amber Chia today and despite what many people think or say about her, I think she's really nice and her English is NOT that bad. I got in a really GOOD interview.

Now i know i'm not the easiest of persons to please and if I don't get the answers I want, I WILL grill you. But I walked away all smiles cause I nailed it. And then my colleagues asked me if I was okay cause they claim i was "smiling too much".

And they also claimed I hit on the bartenders at Rootz - this really snazzy new club at Lot 10. (that was totaly a plug) But that's so not true! I was just being my friendly self. And then I go for lunch with Omar and he looks at me and says, "Mel, you SURE you're ok? You're just so.....happy these days. It's so not you"

And I wonder too....when this too shall pass.... And I think about what Tolstoy said, "If you want to be happy, be."

And they ask me what's brought it on? Kim suggests that "perhaps its just sugar rush, love or just made love!"

And I'm thinking, nahhh.... this is just cause of me. And things with The Big Guy. I'm happy because I decided to just, be.

Gravity

This was from last season's "So You Think You Can Dance" and the choreography by Mia Michaels was just so powerful. It's one of my favourites and it just really moves me everytime I watch it. The song's pretty awesome so go look it up. Gravity By Sara Bareilles.
